RV, camper and motorhome trip planning toolbox – The best ever created
Our 8-day motorhome adventure, a round trip from Alice Springs, offers a thrilling taste of the Australian Outback for the whole family. With a rented RV or campervan, you'll have the freedom to explore stunning landscapes, connect with wildlife, and experience cultural wonders—all while enjoying the flexibility and comfort of traveling in a home on wheels.
Kicking off our journey, we headed to The Kangaroo Sanctuary, where the kids were thrilled to meet and learn about rescued kangaroos up close. A visit here is both heartwarming and educational, as the whole family can engage with these gentle animals in their natural habitat. It's a great place to start our road trip and sets the tone for the outback adventure ahead.
No trip to the Red Centre is complete without visiting the iconic Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and Ayers Rock. The drive to Uluru in our motorhome was a breathtaking experience itself, with the massive red rock formation gradually revealing itself on the horizon. The Cultural Centre offers insight into the Indigenous history and significance of Uluru, and it's an essential stop for families wanting to teach their children about Australia's rich Aboriginal heritage. The kids will be captivated by the ancient stories and the visual displays, and parents will appreciate the respectful cultural lessons.
We were lucky enough to enjoy an unforgettable Kings Canyon Walk, where the vastness and beauty of the canyon left us all in awe. The walking trails are suitable for families, and there are shorter routes available for younger children. However, for the more adventurous members of the family, tackling the longer rim walk offers stunning views that will leave you speechless. Remember to pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and hats—Outback weather can be unpredictable!
One of the many benefits of traveling by RV is the ability to set your own pace. You can plan scenic stops, enjoy meals on the road, and take in the ever-changing outback landscape from the comfort of your campervan. In between destinations, we often pulled over to enjoy a roadside picnic or simply to stretch our legs while marveling at the beauty of the vast desert expanses.
On the way back to Alice Springs, we made sure to stop at the Yeperenye Shopping Centre to pick up some souvenirs and stock up on essentials. The centre offers a variety of shops, making it easy to find something for everyone, whether it's a small memento of your outback journey or some tasty snacks for the road.
