Embarking on an unforgettable adventure, our family set out to explore the stunning coastline of Norway in a rented motorhome, taking a one-way road trip from Bergen to Tromsø over 17 captivating days. With our RV packed and a route planner in hand, we were ready to discover the natural beauty and rich culture that Norway has to offer.
Our journey began in Bergen, where the picturesque surroundings captivated us right from the start. After a visit to the bustling Fishmarket, we rode the Ulriksbanen cable car, ascending to the mountain top for breathtaking panoramic views of the fjords below. The kids were enthralled, pointing out the colorful buildings of the historic Bryggen wharf and the sparkling water.
As we headed north, our first major stop was the Loen Skylift. This thrilling gondola ride took us to the summit of Mt. Hoven, where we were greeted by awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountains and fjords. The fresh mountain air invigorated us as we hiked along the trails, discovering the hidden beauty of Norway’s wilderness.
Continuing our adventure, we arrived at the Geiranger Adventure Kayak Centre. Paddling through the stunning Geirangerfjord was a highlight for the whole family. The towering cliffs, lush greenery, and cascading waterfalls created a magical backdrop, and we enjoyed spotting wildlife along the shore. This experience truly made us feel connected to nature.
Our next destination was Gudbrandsjuvet, a spectacular gorge where we marveled at the rushing waters of the river below. The unique rock formations and the sound of the water provided the perfect setting for a picnic lunch. We made sure to snap plenty of photos, capturing the essence of Norway's dramatic landscapes.
Driving along the Atlantic Ocean Road, we experienced one of the most scenic routes in the world. The road, with its twisting bridges and stunning coastal views, made for an exhilarating drive. We stopped at various lookout points, allowing the children to run around and take in the fresh ocean breeze.
As we made our way towards Tromsø, we visited the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum in Trondheim, where we explored Norway's cultural history through traditional buildings and exhibits. The kids enjoyed interactive displays and the chance to try their hands at crafts, which made the experience both educational and fun.
In the Lofoten Islands, we joined Moskenes Adventures AS for a day of outdoor fun. The family-friendly excursions offered a variety of activities, including hiking and fishing, allowing us to explore the stunning islands while learning about the local culture.
One of the highlights of our trip was joining Arctic Whale Tours AS in Tromsø. We set sail on a breathtaking excursion to spot orcas and humpback whales. The excitement of spotting these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat left us with memories that would last a lifetime.
As we continued our journey, we visited Narvik Geyser, where we marveled at the natural geothermal activity. It was a fascinating experience that sparked the children’s curiosity about geology and the earth's processes.
In Bardu, we explored Bardu Bygdetun, an open-air museum showcasing traditional Norwegian rural life. The kids loved the interactive exhibits and playing with traditional toys, while we appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the country’s heritage.
Finally, our adventure concluded at Polaria in Tromsø, where we enjoyed the fascinating exhibits about Arctic wildlife and the environment. Watching the seals perform was a delightful end to our journey, and we left with a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Norway's natural world.
