A Norwegian Fjord Adventure: A 15-Day RV Road Trip from Kløfta
Setting out from Kløfta in our rented motorhome, we were ready to experience the breathtaking beauty of Norway’s fjords, waterfalls, and cultural landmarks. Traveling with family in an RV meant flexibility, allowing us to explore the landscapes at our own pace while making spontaneous stops along the way. With careful road trip planning and a well-thought-out route planner, this 15-day adventure was destined to be unforgettable.
Our journey began with an immersive look into Norway’s deep-rooted forestry traditions at the Norwegian Forestry Museum, a great way to introduce the kids to the country’s rich environmental history. Continuing towards Lillehammer, we embraced the thrill of winter sports at the Bobsleigh Skeleton and Luge Track, where adrenaline met Olympic history. For a family-friendly break, Hunderfossen Adventure Park was a hit, with fairy-tale-inspired attractions that brought Norwegian folklore to life.
Venturing further into Norway’s natural wonders, we saddled up at Venabustallen, a picturesque horseback riding experience offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Following the trails, we encountered breathtaking waterfalls, each more mesmerizing than the last. We then made a unique stop at Tingvollost, a local cheese farm where we sampled some of Norway’s finest organic blue cheese—a delicious treat for food lovers!
The adventure truly came alive as we drove across the Atlantic Ocean Road, one of the most spectacular roads in the world. The winding bridges and ocean views made this an unforgettable drive, and our campervan allowed us to pause and soak in the scenery. The towering cliffs of Trollveggen provided another awe-inspiring moment, making us feel small against the sheer scale of nature.
Reaching Geiranger, we paddled through crystal-clear waters at the Geiranger Adventure Kayak Centre, an up-close experience of the fjord’s dramatic landscape. Then, at Jostedalsbreen National Park Center, we learned about Norway’s largest glacier before heading to the Loen Skylift, which transported us to one of the most stunning viewpoints in the country. The Balestrand Fjord Adventures tour gave us another unique perspective of the fjords, allowing us to witness their beauty from the water.
Bergen welcomed us with the lively Fishmarket, where we tasted local seafood specialties. A Rødne Fjord Cruise followed, guiding us through breathtaking fjord landscapes and giving us a different view of Norway’s coastline. We capped off our Bergen visit with a ride on the Fløibanen, which offered sweeping views of the city from Mount Fløyen.
Driving towards Bondhusdalen, we took a scenic hike from Bondhusdalen Parkering, leading us to an enchanting glacier-fed lake surrounded by towering peaks. Another highlight was the mighty Vøringfossen Waterfalls, one of Norway’s most iconic cascades, where we admired the dramatic plunge of water from the cliffs.
As our trip neared its end, we took a fascinating detour into science and technology at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology, a hands-on experience for curious minds. A final stop at the Paradox Museum Oslo gave us a fun, mind-bending adventure with optical illusions and interactive exhibits that entertained the whole family.
