Our road trip began in Las Vegas, where the kids marveled at the dancing fountains, and we all enjoyed a night walk along the Las Vegas Strip. Before hitting the road, we stocked up the RV at a local market—an essential first step in any motorhome road trip planning. A short drive took us to the Hoover Dam, where the engineering marvel impressed all ages. The Visitor Center offers hands-on exhibits, and the parking garage is conveniently RV-friendly.

For dino lovers, the Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks were an unexpected highlight. Guided by local Navajo storytellers, our kids stood in actual fossilized footprints—an unforgettable moment.

Lake Powell, Slot Canyons, and Trail Time

Antelope Canyon Tours by Carolene Ekis was one of the most photographed and surreal stops on the trip. The colors and shapes inside the slot canyon are otherworldly, and guided tours keep it safe and informative.

We continued to Lake Powell, where a relaxing boat tour gave us a new perspective of the canyon walls, before we challenged ourselves with a hike to Wire Pass, near The Wave trailhead—great for adventurous families with older kids.

In Utah, we had our "Western movie moment" at Little Hollywood Land in Kanab and saddled up with Ruby’s Horseback Adventures. Then came hiking magic at Queens Garden Trail in Bryce Canyon and the gentle but scenic Emerald Pools Trail in Zion.

From Desert Palettes to Alpine Meadows

Before we re-entered California, we stopped at the Lost City Museum near Overton, Nevada—a lesser-known but fascinating archaeological site.

Then came the alien beauty of Artist’s Palette in Death Valley, where sunset paints the hills in pinks and purples.

As we gained elevation toward Yosemite National Park, we took the scenic Tioga Road into the Sierra Nevadas. The Tunnel View at sunset? Just wow. And Mariposa Grove introduced us to the giants—the ancient sequoias standing like Earth’s silent guardians.

Cheese, Shopping, and Coastal Farewell

Before reaching the coast, we made an educational pit stop at the Hilmar Cheese Company Visitor Center, where hands-on exhibits and samples made everyone smile.

A bit of retail therapy awaited at the San Francisco Premium Outlets, where the RV had to stay well-packed not just with snacks, but shopping bags.

San Francisco welcomed us with fog and charm. Alcatraz Cruises gave us an unforgettable boat ride to the island prison (book ahead!), and Fisherman’s Wharf offered clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls—our reward for miles well driven.
