Embarking on a breathtaking motorhome road trip from Oslo to Tromsø is an adventure that truly showcases the best of Norway’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. With 20 days to explore the Norwegian coast, we set out in our rented European motorhome, ready for a family-friendly journey of fjords, mountains, and memorable stops. As we drove through some of the most scenic routes, including iconic roads like the Atlantic Ocean Road and Trollstigen, each day was a new opportunity to discover something extraordinary.

The trip kicked off with fun and educational stops like the Paradox Museum Oslo and the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology. These stops are ideal for families, especially those with curious kids, as they combine hands-on exhibits with Norway’s fascinating history of science and innovation. After enjoying Oslo, our route planner had us heading into nature, leaving the bustling city behind for the serene beauty of Bondhusdalen Park and embarking on the famous Rødne Fjord Cruise. Seeing the fjords from the water offers a peaceful contrast to driving, with the towering cliffs and shimmering waters forming unforgettable panoramas.

Norway’s parks and outdoor experiences are made for family road trips. We made sure to include hikes like Dronningruta, which were well worth it for the stunning views along the coast, while Jostedalsbreen National Park impressed us with its glaciers. The kids loved exploring places like Grønligrotta, a captivating limestone cave that felt like stepping into another world. Having a campervan really makes a difference, offering the flexibility to stop where we wanted and spend extra time soaking in the beauty of the landscapes.

One of the highlights of the trip was driving the Atlantic Ocean Road, one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. We made stops along the way to enjoy the fresh sea air, spot wildlife, and admire the engineering marvel of this road as it curves across bridges between islands. As we journeyed north, we visited cultural sites like Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum, immersing ourselves in Norway’s rich Viking history and traditions.

No motorhome adventure in Norway would be complete without wildlife encounters. Visiting Polar Park was a hit with the whole family—seeing wolves, bears, and lynxes up close was an unforgettable experience. We also had the chance to go whale watching with Arctic Whale Tours, which was both educational and thrilling for the kids. Our motorhome gave us the flexibility to plan out activities that suited our pace and allowed for spontaneous stops when we came across unexpected sights.

As we got closer to Tromsø, we made time to visit Narvik Geyser and the Arctic–Alpine Botanic Garden. These final stops gave us time to reflect on the incredible journey we had taken through Norway’s diverse landscapes. The motorhome experience made everything so convenient—our home on wheels was a cozy base after long days of exploration.
