RV, camper and motorhome trip planning toolbox – The best ever created
Setting off from the magical Arctic town of Rovaniemi in a rented motorhome, this eight-day road trip through the heart of Finland brings you closer to the country’s rich landscapes, cultural heritage, and family-friendly attractions. Starting our journey at the iconic Santa Claus Village, we immerse ourselves in the enchantment of the Arctic. Here, the kids can meet Santa Claus himself, and everyone can get a certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle—an exciting memento to kick off our adventure.
Not far from Rovaniemi, the Arctic Circle Hiking Area invites us to stretch our legs and explore the scenic nature trails, offering a taste of Lapland's pristine wilderness. With an RV as our base, we have the flexibility to enjoy the trails at our own pace, stopping for photos of the spectacular views, or even a picnic. Planning these outdoor stops early is essential, so we use a route planner to make sure we have enough time for each stop.
Heading south, we drive towards the Kanavuori Nature Trail, a perfect spot for a family-friendly hike. This trail offers a mix of serene forests and elevated viewpoints—ideal for both young explorers and nature-loving adults. The motorhome provides the convenience of being able to rest up after an active day, and it’s easy to plan meals in the RV’s small kitchen.
As we continue, a stop at Elämyspuisto GoPark adds a splash of excitement to the journey. This amusement park is great for families looking for a little thrill, with plenty of activities to keep kids and adults entertained. Road trip planning with a campervan makes it easy to pull over and enjoy spontaneous activities like this along the way.
Our journey then takes us to the historic city of Turku. Here, Turku Castle is a must-see. Exploring its medieval halls and exhibitions makes history come alive for everyone in the family, and the motorhome gives us the freedom to stay nearby, making it easy to visit early and avoid crowds. We also take time to visit the Old Market Hall in Turku for some Finnish treats—perfect for an impromptu lunch in the motorhome.
As we approach our final destination, the capital city of Helsinki, we plan our visit to the iconic Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site and historic fortress spread across six islands. With a motorhome, we can park nearby and take a ferry to this fascinating site, where we explore the fortress walls and learn about Finnish history. It’s the perfect blend of outdoor fun and educational experience, and the kids love the adventure of wandering through the old stone pathways.
Throughout the trip, our RV has been the ultimate travel companion, giving us flexibility, comfort, and the freedom to adapt our plans as needed. Road trip planning was key to ensuring we could experience each attraction fully, and having a motorhome allowed us to travel at our own pace. This journey from Rovaniemi to Helsinki is not just about the destinations—it’s about the joy of exploring Finland as a family, with each stop offering a unique glimpse into the heart of this beautiful country.
