Our 15-day RV road trip through the breathtaking landscapes of Norway, starting and ending in Tromsø, was an unforgettable family adventure filled with wonder, history, and unique experiences. Traveling by rented motorhome gave us the freedom to explore the inland and the northern coast of Norway at our own pace, with the luxury of waking up to majestic fjords, mountains, and arctic wilderness every day.

We began our journey by visiting the Alta Museum - World Center for Rock Art, where the kids were amazed by the ancient rock carvings that told stories from thousands of years ago. This museum, set against the stunning backdrop of Alta’s natural beauty, was a fascinating introduction to the cultural history of northern Norway. It’s the perfect stop for families interested in learning about Norway’s prehistoric past while taking in some gorgeous views.

From there, we made our way inland to the unforgettable Hetta Huskies experience, where the whole family got to meet and even ride with these incredible sled dogs. The kids were especially excited about this stop, as they not only interacted with the friendly huskies but also learned about the essential role these dogs play in arctic life.

As we ventured toward the coast, we discovered the breathtaking beauty of Silverfallet in Björkliden, Sweden, just a short detour from Norway. The cascading waterfall is a hidden gem surrounded by tranquil wilderness, perfect for a picnic stop along the way. The journey then took us to the fascinating Narvik Geyser, where we marveled at the geothermal wonders in the area. It was an excellent educational moment for the little ones, learning about nature’s powerful forces.

Continuing our route planning, we crossed into the magical Lofoten Islands, a place that feels like a fairy tale brought to life. Our time in the Lofoten Islands was spent visiting the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum in Å and going on an adventure with Lofoten Arctic Adventures, where the whole family could get active in the dramatic landscapes, whether through kayaking or hiking. These remote fishing villages and coastal waters provided a glimpse into traditional Norwegian life, as well as a chance for some whale spotting!

For the more adventurous moments of our trip, Andøya Space was a hit with the kids. This space research center, combined with stunning views of the northern skies, sparked curiosity about space and science. A visit here is sure to captivate both young and old explorers alike. Nearby, we visited the Andøy Friluftssenter, a family-friendly center with great food and opportunities to see more of Norway’s untouched natural beauty.

One of the most unforgettable experiences of the journey was the Arctic Whale Tours, where we embarked on a whale-watching adventure that left everyone in awe. Spotting these majestic creatures in their natural habitat was a memory that will last a lifetime. The excitement continued at Polaria in Tromsø, an arctic experience center that offers interactive exhibits about arctic wildlife and environmental conservation. The kids especially loved the aquarium, which features seals and other arctic marine life.
