RV, camper and motorhome trip planning toolbox – The best ever created
As our 22-day European motorhome adventure began, the anticipation was palpable. With the RV packed and route planner at hand, my family and I set out from the enchanting city of Venice, ready to explore Italy, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia in one unforgettable road trip.
Our journey kicked off with a visit to the Mercato Ittico Comunale, where the vibrant energy of the Venetian fish market introduced us to the region’s seafood delights. From there, we crossed into Slovenia to marvel at the natural wonders of the Škocjan Caves. The children were thrilled to explore the subterranean world, with its dramatic stalactites and stalagmites.
Driving through Slovenia, we couldn’t resist a stop at Soteska Vintgar, where the walk along the gorge offered stunning views and a refreshing break from the drive. As we moved into Austria, the majesty of the Eisriesenwelt, the world’s largest ice cave, left us awestruck. It was a chilly but magical experience that added a touch of winter wonderland to our summer journey.
In Salzburg, we delved into history and music at Mozart's Birthplace, where the kids learned about the life of the famous composer. The Freilichtmuseum Salzburg provided a step back in time with its open-air exhibits of rural Austrian life. The adventure continued as we visited the impressive Wasserfall Tatzelwurm, a cascading waterfall that provided a perfect backdrop for family photos.
Our motorhome was a comfortable haven as we crossed into Germany, stopping at the shimmering Swarovski Kristallwelten in Austria along the way. Here, the crystal worlds captivated us with their artistic installations and dazzling displays.
In Germany, the craftsmanship at Holzbildhauerei Röck fascinated us. The children loved watching skilled artisans at work, transforming wood into intricate sculptures. Afterward, we took a detour to the scenic Cascate del Varone in Italy, where the powerful waterfall was a highlight.
A visit to the Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium brought excitement as we discovered marine life up close. The kids were particularly taken with the interactive exhibits and colorful fish. Our itinerary also included a leisurely stroll through the Parco Giardino Sigurtà, where the lush gardens provided a tranquil setting for a family picnic.
As we neared the end of our journey, we returned to Venice, indulging in the artistry of Venezia Maschere by La Gioia, where we admired the craftsmanship of traditional Venetian masks. These works of art reminded us of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
Throughout our trip, careful road trip planning ensured we could enjoy each destination at our own pace, with the flexibility to stop and explore whenever curiosity struck. Our campervan became our mobile home, where we shared meals, stories, and the wonders of our journey through four countries. This motorhome adventure through Europe was more than a vacation; it was an exploration of cultures, landscapes, and the joy of discovery together.
